According to (common sense) and a report in Deadline, Amazon has been scouring the MGM library to determine which intellectual property can be mined for new films and TV series. Robocop, Stargate, Legally Blonde, Fame, Barbershop, The Magnificent Seven, Pink Panther, and The Thomas Crown Affair are reportedly being developed for either TV for film projects, with some A-list talent knocking on Amazon’s door to take on their favourite IP.
“There are currently no plans for other James Bond series beyond the unscripted competition series announced shortly after Amazon’s acquisition of MGM closed as the franchise producers are focused on figuring out the next film installment,” confirmed Deadline, much to the relief of most James Bond fans who have shuddered about the idea of a streaming spin-off.
Amazon has not been rushing to launch projects from the MGM acquisition, in part because the rights on their franchises are often complicated, and also because MGM kept their records hundreds of feet underground in a salt mine in Kansas.
