Film authorities in China on Wednesday granted MGM & Universal an additional month to exhibit ‘No Time To Die’ in the country.
Approximately 15% of the country’s cinemas have been closed during ‘No Time To Die’s release due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The extension means that Daniel Craig’s final outing will be available in China on the big screen until December 28th.
China usually restricts Western films to only having one month on release, but can extend to two if the film is popular, and only if that extension does not interfere with national holidays of Communist Party celebrations.
When the extension was granted on Wednesday, ‘No Time To Die’ had earned $59.3m in China. The extra month is unlikely to significantly improve the box office, as analysts in the country project a total haul of $62.9m. The latest Bond outing has not lit up the Chinese box office as hoped. For perspective, Disney re-released ‘Avatar’ this year in China and made a similar $57.6m, and Universal’s ‘F9’ outing dwarfed 007 by making $203.9m.
