Sony to use 'Skyfall' to help launch new smartphone

Skyfall - 27-06-12
Sony will use the new James Bond film "Skyfall" to help launch their new smartphone.

According to a report on the Mobile Today website, a major marketing campaign centered around 007 will coincide with the device's launch this October. A rumoured exclusive deal with a UK network operator could see footage from the film and other promotional materials linked to the handset.

It is not confirmed whether the new smartphone will also feature in the film, but if the last two films are anything to go by, expect to see some Sony gadgetry scattered throughout. M has already been seen using a Vaio laptop in the movie.

The website speculates that "linking its devices to its entertainment business is seen by Sony Mobile as an important USP for its smartphone portfolio, making them stand out from its competitors offerings".

Speaking to Mobile last month, Sony UK & Ireland marketing director Catherine Cherry said: Customers want to look beyond the core smartphone experience and we are working on that with all our partners in the Sony family to bring that to our customers.

Sony Mobile Communications declined to comment on the reports.
