Sam Mendes: 007 has not ditched Martinis

Skyfall - 07-07-12
"Skyfall" director Sam Mendes has finally shot back at overblown tabloid reports that James Bond has ditched his classic Martini for a Heineken beer thanks to a lucrative product placement deal.

What the tabloids failed to report is that the Bond productions have had a long standing relationship with Heineken, and if you go back all the way to the beginning, even "Dr. No" featured prominent product placement for Red Stripe beer. Bond even drank beer from the bottle in "Quantum of Solace" but none of the sharpened journalists caught that either.

MI6 reported at the turn of the year that Bond will visit a glitzy Martini bar whilst overseas in "Skyfall".

Mendes has now confirmed that although 007 will sup a beer in one scene, he will still prefer his classic drink.

He told GQ Magazine, "There is a moment where he drinks Heineken, or rather a beer. But there is a story reason for that. And he does drink other things..."

Thanks to `Samuel001` for the alert.
