Daniel Craig shares ancestral link with James Bond

Bond News - 12-11-12
Recent research has revealed that 007 star Daniel Craig shares an ancestral link with the man who had his name taken by Ian Fleming for his famous spy.

Craig is connected by blood to a famous ornithologist James Bond.

"When I wrote the first one in 1953, I wanted Bond to be an extremely dull, uninteresting man to whom things happened; I wanted him to be a blunt instrument. When I was casting around for a name for my protagonist I thought by God, (James Bond) is the dullest name I ever heard," Fleming famously explained in a CBC interview before his death.

It has now emerged Bond and Craig share a common link with King Edward III of England, John of Gaunt, the Duke of Lancaster.

Family historian of ancestry.com, Michelle Ercanbrack, tells Yahoo! omg!, "While we were researching Daniel Craig's family history, we noticed that some of the names and places in his tree resembled names from James Bond's tree. We discovered a fascinating connection between him and the actual bird-watching James Bond through English royalty. The great thing about family history is you never know what you might find."
