Bond novel 'Solo' up for two National Book Awards next month

Literary - 19-11-13
The National Book Awards showcases the best of British writing & publishing, whilst celebrating books with wide popular appeal, critical acclaim and commercial success. There are 11 categories

The new James Bond continuation novel 'Solo' by William Boyd has been nominated in two categories:

Specsavers Popular Fiction Book of the Year
For an adult book of commercial fiction from a UK author, which has made a massive impact; a success in all bookselling outlets, a book that may have exceeded expectations, a bestseller

Audible.co.uk Audiobook of the Year
For an unabridged audiobook released for the first time and made available to download between our guideline dates. It must be: fiction, childrens, a non-fiction work or poetry by a UK author of longer than 1 hour. Judging is based upon the quality of the content, the reading and the production and, not, simply an audio version of a bestseller.

The shortlists are chosen by around 50 carefully-selected individuals from the National Book Awards Academy, who are drawn from retailer chain buyers, independent booksellers, wholesalers and trade press columnists. All have knowledge of not only what has been published throughout the year, but have also seen proofs and galleys of titles about to be published. Those involved include experts with specialist knowledge of all the genres covered by the categories including childrens books and audiobooks.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Mandarin Oriental, London, on 11th December 2013.
