Sam Smith’s ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ nominated for Best Original Song Oscar

Sam Smith, hot on the tail of his win at the Golden Globes this week, has been nominated – along with songwriting partner Jimmy Napes – for an Oscar.

Smith is also echoing his predecessor, Adele, who was nominated for and won at the Academy Awards in 2013 for “Skyfall”.

“Writing’s on the Wall” is up against three other contenders:

David Lang – from Youth

Til It Happens to You
Lady Gaga, Diane Warren – from The Hunting Ground

Earned It
The Weeknd, Stephan Moccio, Belly, et al – from Fifty Shades of Grey

The 88th academy awards ceremony will take place on February 28, 2016.
