Young Bond - 24-06-04
The Ian Fleming Publications's website today announced that it has sold the US publication rights to the first two new "Young James Bond" series written by Charlie Higson to US publisher Miramax.

Harvey Weinstein, Miramax co-chairman stated, "It is an honor to be connected to the Ian Fleming estate and to be involved with one of the world's most recognizable icons. The Miramax name coupled with the James Bond brand is a powerful combination. Charlie Higson's novels stay true to the original Bond character and are perfectly suited for both children and adults around the world who will love the gripping adventures told throughout this series."

Jonathan Burnham, president and editor-in-chief of Miramax Books said "Charlie Higson has done a wonderful job of translating the Bond vision into a fresh new series for younger readers. It's exciting to be re-launching the Bond franchise for a new generation."

Kate Grimond, Ian Fleming's niece said "we're delighted with the way Charlie Higson has introduced a lively and authentic young James Bond and has sent him off on an adventure worthy of the maestro Ian Fleming himself"

Miramax plan to publish the first book in Spring 2005, around same time as the planned UK release.

Trade paper Variety also ran the story today:

"Miramax Books has bought up the U.S. publishing rights to the first two books in a new adventure series about the teenage James Bond. Film rights are not part of the deal between Miramax's publishing division and Ian Fleming Publications, the company founded by Bond creator Ian Fleming and wholly owned by the Fleming family"
