Young Bond author Charlie Higson turns down adult 007 offer |
Young Bond - 08-09-05
Young Bond authour Charlie Higson has "snubbed" a lucrative offer to write the next adult James Bond book, because he is committed to releasing more tales about superspy 007 as a teenager - reports Contact Music.
The 46-year-old rocketed to literary success with his hit book "SilverFin" - itself heading for the big screen with teen stars Daniel Radcliffe and Jamie Bell currently battling for the lead role according to the tabloids, despite Higson ruling a movie out until the books had fully established themselves.
And, although Higson was desperate to be involved in the project marking the 100 year anniversary of 007 creator Ian Fleming's birth (not his death as reported in the press!), he decided the young Bond series should come first.
He says, "I'm very honoured. But I'm busy writing the young Bond books and I can't take the time out. It's a shame because I'd love to do it."
Meanwhile, the comedy legend admits there is one offer he would not turn down - the chance to play the suave superspy himself.
He sighs, "I keep writing them letters. Every man my age has something in the back of his head that says: 'I could be James Bond.'"
