Dame Judi Dench being asked back to play M

Casino Royale - 18-10-05
Following news from the press conference last week that the roles of Q and Moneypenny were missing from the current script, some doubt was thrown on the role of M.

Not only will M appear in "Casino Royale", the 21st James Bond movie, but the role is also set to be played by Dame Judi Dench - who appeared as 007's boss in all four of Pierce Brosnan's outings.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, director Martin Campbell said "we are taking to Judi Dench about coming back."

With talk of a "Bond Begins" style reboot, it is unclear how the continuity may be maintained if 007 is going back to an early mission in his career.

On the subject of the context of the story in the 007 lineage, Campbell said: "It begins when Bond gets his 007 stripes. He comes in with rough edges. By the end, he will become the 007 we all know and love."

Thanks to `JP` for the alert.
