Blueprints for James Bond's gadget-laden Aston Martin DB5 up for auction

Collecting - 28-06-11
Blueprints for the real Q-Branch modifications that were made to James Bond's Aston Martin DB5 for use in the films "Goldfinger" and "Thunderball" are going up for auction this Wednesday.

The specs are the only authorized reproductions of the original drawings created for the car 1964 and feature detail on the machine guns, battering rams, wheel-mounted tyre slashers, oil slick sprayer, and many more gadgets.

Auctioneer Stuart Channon told The Daily Mail: 'It's the first time in history authorised copies of the designers blueprints for the 007 Aston Martin DB5 are being sold. While the originals remain closely guarded by producers EON Productions, eight copies were released for book The Most Famous Car In The World by Bond author Dave Worrall. Offered here are seven of the actual copies used by Worrall - this is an incredibly unique find in the world of not only Bond but movie and Aston collectors too. This specific blueprint is truly exceptional and the only authorised copy."

The blueprints are estimated to fetch 15,000, although as Bond collectors know all too well, valuations can be wildly out of line with the final purchase price if the items are rare and attract the eye of 007 fans.

The co-auction, by Channons Auctions and Bamfords Auctioneers and Valuers, takes place on Wednesday at The Royal Automobile Club's Woodcote Park clubhouse in Surrey.
