MI6 reports from New York City where the US debut of "Quantum of Solace" was held at a special charity gala event on Tuesday night...

The "Quantum of Solace" globe-trotting premiere schedule touched down in New York City last night (Tuesday 11th November 2008) for a special screening. The 22nd James Bond film made its American debut in aid of Robert De Niro's Tribeca Film Institute at the AMC Lincoln Square Theatre.

007 star Daniel Craig appeared with De Niro on the red carpet, but neither took questions from the media during the photocall. Craig did later give interviews to the press, and was joined by his girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell. From the "Quantum of Solace" team were producer Barbara Broccoli and American actor Jeffrey Wright, who plays CIA agent Felix Leiter.

The $1,000-a-ticket screening gave the Tribeca Film Institute the kind of boost that few nonprofits are likely to see in this economy. "This benefit is our budget for next year," said relieved TFI co-founder Jane Rosenthal. "It's trying times for everybody."

The benefit alone pulled in upwards of $475,000, surpassing its fund-raising goal and outperforming any of TFI's previous yearly shindigs. The organisation has Jeffrey Wright to thank for the screening: the "Quantum" co-star sits on the board and asked Sony to provide a print of the film to boost attendance at the annual event (last year's fund-raiser didn't include a screening).

A big after-screening dinner was held at the Tavern on the Green, but Craig and company skipped the formalities and headed to Bar Bouloud instead. "It has such a rich cinematic history," Wright said of the Bond film series. Producer Barbara Broccoli was quick to defend the series' new, darker tone. "I think the film has a lot of resonance today," she said. "Marc Forster is quite a spectacular director. We'd love for him to do another."

"Quantum of Solace" opens nationwide in the USA and Canada on Friday 14th November 2008.

Additional events are to be held in Sydney and Tokyo later this month.
