Win New 007 Books From Virgin
9th December 2002
Bond Films
The Bond films are the longest-running and the most financially
successful movie franchise in the history of cinema. They have
entered popular culture: James Bond's answer to a request for
his name, 'Bond, James Bond', topped a poll of the greatest film
quotes of all time, and, if you mention a Martini to anyone old
enough to drink one, they're bound to come out with the immortal
line 'Shaken, not stirred'. From Dr No in 1962 through to Die
Another Day in 2002, the twenty Bond films cover forty years of
film-making and five actors in the starring role (six if you count
David Niven in Casino Royale). Each film was a product of its
time - Moonraker, for example, was made because of the success
of Star Wars - and was influenced by whichever director was drafted
in to help James Bond through his many assignments.
It is also the story of two Eastern European immigrants, Saltzman
and Broccoli, who acquired the rights to Ian Fleming's character
of James Bond and built an empire out of the sexist spy. Using
the successful format of previous books in the Virgin Film series,
this guide will include categories including Source to Screen,
Set Pieces and, of course, Gadgets. It also has an ongoing counter
of on-screen deaths, martinis ordered and successful seductions.
- Completely up to date, with details of every film up to and
including the twentieth, Die Another Day.
- The ultimate guide to James Bond in the movies looking at
the films within the context of the period of their release
and examining the similarities, if any, to the novels.
- Illustrated with eight pages of colour stills.
- A title in the critically acclaimed Virgin Film list.
Pierce Brosnan - The Biography
Hollywood star, father, husband, producer, supporter of charities
and voted the Sexiest Man Alive, Pierce Brosnan's life is the
ultimate rags-to-riches tale. Brosnan was born in Ireland and
his parents divorced when he was very young. Finally settling'
with his mother in London, he was bullied for his Irish accent
until, after a stint as a commercial artist, he discovered a passion
for acting. Finding fame in the TV show Remington Steele, Brosnan
originally had to miss out on playing James Bond because of contractual
obligations to the show in 1986. Offered a second chance, he burst
on to our screens in 1995 in GoldenEye. Three Bond films later
and he is being described by some, including first James Bond
Sean Connery, as the best James Bond ever.
Coinciding with the fortieth anniversary of the first-ever Bond
film, Dr. No, and the release of Die Another Day, the twentieth
film in the Bond franchise, this revealing and fully updated biography
also covers his family life, including his recent marriage and
the birth of his son Paris, and his work as a producer on films
such as The Thomas Crown Affair with his own production company,
Irish DreamTime.
- Fully up to date to include all Brosnan's Bond films, his
recent marriage and move into producing movies
- Brosnan's three Bond films are the highest grossing of the
series so far
- Voted Sexiest Man Alive in a People magazine poll in November
2001
The Bond Files
Which Bond films did Stanley Kubrick and Francis Ford Coppola
help out on?
When did Bond meet Playboy millionaire Hugh Hefner?
How many times has 009 been killed?
The Bond Files is a thorough and detailed study of the James
Bond phenomenon, right from the early days in the 1950s before
the films, and ending with the most recent Bond adventure. This
companion to the legendary Bond features all that his dedicated
legions of fans could want: observations and comments on plot,
location details and categories including Toys for the Boys, Sadism,
Mistakes Can be Fatal and Lines to Rewind For. It chronicles James
Bond's every appearance in novels, comics, films and TV - from
the best known to the most obscure facts about James Bond that
even the world's greatest secret agent has forgotten. And it's
all written in a witty, irreverent and, above all, readable style.
- Completely revised and updated third edition of this best-selling
edition including information on Die Another Day
- Totally comprehensive, including the films, books, comics
and TV series.
