In the run up to the release of "Diamonds
Are Forever" and his return to the role of James Bond
in 1971, Sean Connery was interviewed by BBC television about
why he came back to 007 and what the future may hold for the
Scottish star. Interestingly for Bond scholars, Connery
admits here that he only ever read three of the Ian Fleming novels:
'Thunderball' (because
they were
going to shoot that as the
very first Bond film), 'Live
And Let Die' and 'From
Russia With Love'.
He also contends that the weakness of "On
Her Majesty's Secret Service" at the box-office gave him the leverage he needed
to negotiate a deal on his terms.
