New 007 DVDs In 2005
24th January 2004
UPDATE
(19/04/04): Classic James Bond films getting a digital
make-over ready for new DVDs in October 2005...
Even though the 007 series has just completed a major DVD marketing
blitz around the world, with the region
1 boxsets released
for only two months before going on moratorium again, plans are
already afoot for a new collection.
The "Special Edition" 007 DVDs were first released
in 2000 to coincide with the release of "The World Is Not
Enough" on DVD,
and the same discs were subsequently relaunched in 2002 and 2003. Click
here for full details on each disc in the MI6 DVD section.
Countdown Set To October 2005
With an eye on the cinema release of Bond
21 in November 2005,
MI6 can reveal that a new series of 007 DVDs are scheduled
for October 2005 - one month before the
next movie will be due out.
MI6 reported back in July
2003 that a long-term project to remaster the classic Bond film
soundtracks was underway. These new digitally enhanced
soundtracks will be the major improvement to the releases of
"Dr No", "From
Russia With Love", "Goldfinger", "Thunderball", "You Only Live
Twice", "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", "Diamonds Are Forever",
"Live And Let Die" and "The Man With The Golden Gun" in 2005.
The larger dynamic range of the modern technology should provide
an exciting new dimension to the audio experience, but Bond
purists need not worry though, as the original mono sound track
will also feature on the DVD so you can switch back to the original
traditional if you desire.

Audio is not the only aspect of the films to benefit form
this latest remastering. Brand new digital film transfers
will be made for all the movies from "Dr. No" through
to and including "The World Is Not Enough", so
007 will look sharper than ever.
After something extra special? If you are not an audiophile
of picture quality expert, there will also be extras to
tempt you into buying a new set of DVDs. New documentaries
will be added to the discs with exclusive interviews with
cast and crew members from the past 42 years, along with rare
and unseen footage from the productions. |
If you can not wait until October 2005, the Bond DVDs can still
be purchased if you hurry. Although the MGM moratorium
for the USA boxsets has already kicked in, stockists are allowed
to continue to sell any stock they have left.
