"Everything or Nothing" Teaser Sequence
19th January 2004
Just like any Bond film, the latest adventure featuring 007
will start with an enthralling edge-of-the-seat teaser sequence
before
the main titles grace the screen.
"Everything or Nothing", due out in February 2004,
experienced the opposite problem as the 1999 movie "The
World Is Not Enough" during production. Whereas Brosnan's
third film was changed to include the thrilling boat chase
ahead of the titles because the first cut of the teaser sequence
was too short, the latest game had to move action out of
the teaser because it was too long.
Originally, gamers would have guided Bond through the opening
Nanotech Facility level, where 007 discovers Nikolai Diavolo
attempting to steal scientific blueprints and has seemingly
captured top scientist Katya Nadanova. From rappelling down the
building, to jumping in either a Porsche Cayenne or dirt bike
(depending on player preference) and chasing Diavolo's two track
train,
the action - although thrilling - was just too much for the opening
sequence.
Consequently the development team had to create a new "stand
alone" teaser to introduce gamers into the new digital 007
adventure, much like the older Bond movies where the characters
and plot of the pre-title scenes had no reference to
the rest of the plot. In brief, the new game teaser sequence
could
be
compared
to the
terrorist arms bazaar of "Tomorrow Never Dies".

Blow By Blow
The classic gun barrel motif opens the action with the
familiar Bond theme played on twangy guitar. The action
takes place at a military base in the Pamir Mountains of
Tajikistan, where a weapons trade is about to take place.
A Russian military
helicopter lands at the base with of "Die Another
Day"s opening sequence. A small Russian tactical nuclear
device (or "suitcase
bomb") is to be sold to very suspect looking people.
But they are not alone. Bond has infiltrated the base dressed
as a local, much like Timothy Dalton's 007 from the Afghanistan
sequences in "The Living Daylights".
Over a secure comm's link, M briefs Bond on the latest
status:
M: "Intelligence reports that a nuclear suitcase
bomb, stolen from the ex-Soviet stockpile, has surfaced
in southern
Tajikistan.
Unfortunately it's about to change hands -
the wrong hands. We cannot allow this to occur. Recover
the bomb and bring it back." |
Bond has to disrupt the arms deal and take ownership of the
case - but the base is buzzing with guards. A sniper sight closes
in on a plane... Bond shoots one of the missiles loaded on the
jet and the base descends into chaos as explosions rock the area.
Both sides immediately blame each other for the sabotage and
start firing at each other, whilst Bond looks on from behind
his cover.
At this point the player has to take over from the cinematics,
controlling Bond for the first time. Onscreen instructions
prompt the player of the objectives and important control
buttons.
To complete the mini-mission, Bond must steal the suitcase
bomb (which has conveniently skidding across the floor towards
Bond during the shoot-out) and find a rocket launcher to
shoot down an enemy jet that is lurking, as well as three
tanks that are onto him.
The crashing jet explodes into a
ball of fire, causing a large hole to open up in the base
wall. 007 runs through the maelstrom and out of the base
into a nearby helicopter. Flying off into the night, the
camera pans to the moon and fades into the title
sequence. |

Buyer: "$100 million
as we agreed. You have the device?"
Seller: "Of course..."
Bond: "Well, what have we here?"
M: "It's confirmed 007. A Soviet
PU239 with 12 kiloton yield. You are authorized to
use all means necessary
to retrieve that case."
Bond: "Understood." |
Comm's: "This is EVAC
1. ETA 60 seconds. Hang on Sir."
