Book Preview: Pictures And Premieres
31st July 2007
Pictures And Premieres by Harry Myers, John Willis &
Gareth Owen. Foreword by Sir Roger Moore.
"For nearly six decades
Harry Myers has been a photographer of Royalty and show business
occasions. Since 1946 he has been monitoring the annual Royal
Film Performance and was continuously employed by what used to
be called Wardour Street as the film companies’ official
photographer at their starry celebrations.
The popular Cockney, born
in the Clerkenwell Road, has photographed virtually every
major film star and movie
mogul who came to London to lead the razzmatazz and ballyhoo
as their films enriched the nation’s cinema screens.
His trusty camera unveils a remarkable pictorial record
of a former cinematic age of protocol and elegance and
reveals a fascinating glimpse of a Royal family graciously
ageing over the decades.
Now with collaborators John Willis and Gareth Owen, Harry
has opened his vast archive to produce PICTURES AND PREMIERES,
which will be published by Robert Hale in summer 2007.
Harry, together with his son Scott who now carries the
company camera, has attended every James Bond film premiere
in London as official photographer. His archive includes
a vast number of shots from Dr No through Casino Royale;
and many will feature in the extensive chapter on Bond
in his book (as they do today, on display).
