If you didn't pick up
the Ian Fleming
short story collection - titled "Quantum of Solace" to
cash-in on the film of the same name for which the corresponding
tale has little relevancy at all - then you will have a
second chance this year. With no movie novelization planned
for the 2008 James Bond
film "Quantum of Solace", Ian Fleming Publications
will re-issue the short story compilation again with new
cover artwork and a hardback edition through Penguin Classics.
As with the first
spin on this idea, released back in May in the UK
and August in the USA, the "Quantum of Solace" compendium
contains all nine James Bond short stories written by
Ian Fleming.
"For
Your Eyes Only" was a collection of five short
stories published in 1960 that Ian Fleming had originally
written for one hour television shows for CBS in mind.
Two of the short stories contained
in the "For Your
Eyes Only" collection had been previously published. "Quantum
of Solace" had been published in the May issue of
Cosmopolitan magazine in 1959, and "The Hildebrand
Rarity" had been published in the March issue of
Playboy magazine in 1960. The original 1966
hardback "Octopussy & The
Living Daylights" only included the two titular
stories. The paperback edition added "The Property
of a Lady". The 2002 paperback by Penguin added "007
in New York".
"Quantum of Solace" will be released by
Penguin Classics in the UK in hardback and paperback on
October 30th 2008, retailing for £20.00 and £6.99
respectively. There are no details of a US release yet,
but the paperback
edition released earlier this year is
still widely available.
