Celebrate the holiday season with a Bond girl inspired cocktail, because Christmas only comes once a year...

Bond Girl Cocktails
25th December 2009

Back in 1962, Sean Connery’s request for a “martini, shaken not stirred” made with vodka helped change how people made 007’s favourite cocktail—from using traditional gin to making it vodka-based. Over the course of the last 22 films, many Bond Girls have inspired their own drinks too. Here is a small selection of recipes from the MI6 bar tending division to help you celebrate any occasion.

The Christmas Jones
Inspired by the nuclear scientist played by Denise Richards in 1999's "The World Is Not Enough", this festive vodka-based drink begins with a blend of fruit flavor and is topped off with Sprite or 7-Up for a little fizz, then garnished with fresh mint. This recipe makes two highball drinks.

Ingredients
4 fresh strawberries
1 part vodka
2 tsp superfine sugar
5 oz pineapple juice
Sprite / 7-Up
Mint sprigs for garnish

Method

1. In a blender, whiz the vodka, strawberries, sugar and pineapple juice together.
2. Pour the mix equally into two highball glasses.
3. Top with Sprite or 7-Up.
4. Garnish with a sprig of mint.
5. Serve with a smattering of puns and bad Christmas jokes.

The Kissy Suzuki
This recipe, inspired by the character played by Mie Hama in the 1967 outing "You Only Live Twice", fills two highball glasses and is a wonderful mix of raspberry, cranberry and apple flavors with a strawberry for a compliment.

Ingredients
3 Tbsp raspberry puree
1 part vodka
3 Tbsp cranberry juice
5 oz cloudy apple juice
Sprite / 7-Up
Fresh strawberries for garnish

Method

1. Pour the vodka, raspberry puree, cranberry juice, and apple juice into a cocktail shaker with ice cubes.
2. Shake well.
3. Strain equally into two highball glasses half-filled with ice cubes.
4. Top with Sprite/7-Up.
5. Garnish with strawberries.

The May Day
Like the character played by Grace Jones in 1985's "A View To A Kill", this one is a complex and hard work, but comes good in the end. It is a blend of fresh fruit flavors with a rum and apple juice base. This recipe makes two highball drinks.

Ingredients
2 ripe peaches, pitted and roughly chopped
1 part rum
4 strawberries, cubed
Flesh and seeds of 2 passion fruit
4 oz cloudy apple juice
1 Tbsp superfine sugar
2 tsp grated fresh ginger
Crushed ice
Apple fans for garnish

Method
1. Blend all the ingredients together with crushed ice.
2. Pour the mix equally into two highball glasses.
3. Garnish with an apple fan.

The Vesper
In Casino Royale, Bond transforms the martini from a staid, traditional gin drink into a more complex and refined libation. The addition of his favourite vodka and white wine vermouth created a signature beverage so worthy he named it Vesper, after his first true love. You'll understand his passion once you shake this cocktail (please don't stir it) with Smirnoff Vodka, a vodka ten times filtered for extraordinary clarity.

Ingredients
1/3 oz Smirnoff Vodka
1 oz Gordon's Gin
Splash of White Wine Vermouth

Method
Pour all the ingredients into an ice filled shaker. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
