Story
- Hong Kong
Bond awakes to find himself on a table surrounded by
medical equipment. After realising he is still alive, and in not too bad shape
apart from the long hair and beard, M enters the facility. A naked Bond tries
to approach her but is shocked to find a wall of bullet-proof glass between them.
M
reveals that she didn't want the exchange to take place, it was too high a price.
Zao had blown up a South Korean and China conference, killing 3 agents, before
she finally bowed from NSA pressure. She reveals that one of their top spies within
the North Korean military had just been executed and intelligence pointed the
finger towards a leak from Bond's prison cell. Strongly denying that he had talked,
Bond later escapes from the mobile hospital by luring the medics in to perform
emergency CPR. The blast of the resuscitator throws the medics across the room
as he grabs his clothes and thanks the nurse for her kiss of life.
Rather
than suffer the humiliation of re-evaluation and possibly retirement at an MI6
outpost in the Falklands, Bond escapes to Seoul, where he manages to steal some
money from a pimp in The Top Hat bar.
Back at MI6 HQ, M - although distressed
at Bond`s predicament - allows her self a private smile when Robinson and Moneypenny
inform her of his escape to Seoul.
In the backstreets of Seoul, Bond does
a favour for an sailor in debt by taking out a loan shark, and in return buys
himself a stowaway ticket in a torpedo tube on a boat headed for Hong Kong.
After
a broken night's sleep, Bond swims a mile from the ship to Victoria Harbour. Mr
Chang of the Hotel Runyeon Royale granted Bond the presidential suite, as he still
recognised the old friend underneath all his bedraggled hair.
After a hearty
meal, a haircut and a shave, Bond welcomes a beautiful Chinese masseuse by the
name of Peaceful Fountains of Desire into his suite. Bond discovers the the girl
packs a hidden Beretta, which he holds to her head as he shatters a big mirror
in the room - revealing Mr Chang and three other Chinese secret service personnel.
Chang demands to know what Bond is doing in Hong Kong, and Bond explains he is
working on his own to chase Zao - who had just killed three Chinese secret service
agents.
Chang issues Bond with a new passport and Walther P99 before wishing
him well on his trip to Cuba - where Zao is hiding after his release.
