Story
- London
Back at MI6 HQ, Falco is on a video link to M when he shows
her CCTV of Bond's activities in Cuba. Shocked by the scenes, Falco threatens
M to keep Bond out of the way or else he will do it for her. M can not believe
Bond is supposedly heading back to London after what has happened.
Bond
takes a 747 flight to London, but instead of landing the usual way, clings to
the front landing gear to avoid passport control.
Gustav Graves arrives
late for his appointment at Buckingham Palace, and it gives Bond time to lose
himself in the huge crowd anticipating the celebrity's arrival. Graves floats
down to the grounds of Green Park with the aid of Union Jack parachute where he
is met by hordes of TV crew and newspaper paparazzi. He toys and jokes with the
journalists before heading off to his knighthood with the Queen.
Bond follows
his instincts and heads for his exclusive gentleman's club in St. James's Street.
After watching Graves and Frost in an intense fencing match, which Graves narrowly
wins, Bond approaches his fencing coach Verity for the lesson he had arranged.
Bond
quizzes Verity on the mysterious blonde who also accompanied Graves at Buckingham
Palace. He remembers that Frost won the gold medal for fencing at the Sydney Olympics
by default after her Russian victor overdosed on steroids.
Verity introduces
Bond to Graves and arranges a duel. After losing a best of three match, Bond ups
the stakes from £1000 to the diamonds Bond took off Zao in Cuba. Realising
that Bond is on to him, Graves attacks Bond more ferociously than in the previous
bout. Bond wins a tremendous point which further enrages Graves. Gustav tosses
the electronic scoring equipment aside, grabs sabre swords and offers Bond a true
match: first blood from the torso. Frost ends the fight before it goes too far
as she expertly throws a sword between them, and after Graves realises what a
spectacle he has made of himself, nonchalantly accepts defeat and writes Bond
a cheque.
Graves, impressed in the skill of his opponent, invites Bond to
join him in Iceland for a demonstration of his Icarus project. A porter at the
club hands bond an envelope containing a big iron key - a key that can lead Bond
back into active service.
