Story
- Korea (Climax)
Bond and Jinx debrief MI6 and the NSA over the course
of a very frustrating week, and finally convince their superiors that Gustav Graves
is really Colonel Moon.
Relations between North and South Korea steadily
worsen as both sides increase their military presence around the border region.
Bond and Jinx meet with their superiors, M and Falco respectively, as they discuss
what to do. M now trusts Bond again and sends him in to North Korea after Graves,
and Falco - reluctant at the idea of the British taking the lead - sends Jinx
to accompany him.
The two agents fly close to the border in an American
helicopter, before mounting personal switchblade jet planes and flying in to North
Korea. Before they lose all their altitude, they jettison the craft and parachute
into the thick forest.
Back in the situation room, Falco orders the destruction
of the Icarus satellite to begin. Meanwhile, Graves and his Generals (Han, Li
and Dong) control Icarus to shoot down the American missile. Their weapon is safe
from any attack.
Bond and Jinx, wearing full combat gear and radio communicators,
cut their way through the chain link fence protecting the Antonov's runway. Using
the shadow of the enormous plane, they grab on to the landing gear and make their
way into a hold as the plane takes off.
The plane is packed with Colonel
Moon's toys: sports cars, transporter trucks and many weapons cases. Graves, Vlad
and the generals take their position in the observation room, housed in the nose
of the plane. Similar to a WWII bomber, the conical glass nose allows the occupants
an amazing view.
As Bond and Jinx hid inside a doorway, they spot a guard
and a shadowy figure approaching them. General Moon! Bond knocks out the guard
and explains the situation that his son is not dead, and he has changed his appearance.
General
Moon marches through the onboard gymnasium and spots something familiar - the
bust of Colonel Moon stands on a pedestal in the plane's gym exactly like the
one in the DMZ. The General and Colonel confront each other and belief finally
sinks in that his son has transformed himself into a Westerner.
Keen to
impress his father, Graves fires the Icarus weapon on the DMZ and destroys the
minefield in a huge beam of light. With the historical minefield which has kept
the two nations from warring now gone, Graves declares his desire to sweep the
American troops away with Icarus, and invade South Korea, and later Japan, finally
becoming allies with China and creating a new world superpower.
Falco and
his American General do not like what they see. After a call to the President,
they vow to hit anything that crosses the border with all their might.
Bond
and Jinx make the most of the family reunion distraction and take out the two
pilots in the cockpit above. Bond, keen to finish the job, tries to take a shot
at Graves through the glass but it blocked when General Moon gets in his line
of sight.
General Moon confronts his son and orders him to stop the madness.
Graves refuses, and as the two battle for a gun, General Moon is shot dead. Graves
plucks the rank insignia off his dead father and promotes himself.
The co-pilot
of the plane comes to and knocks Bond off his shot. He falls through the cockpit
floor and into the observation room, where a further pistol shot blows out one
of the windows of the nose cone. The cabin depressurises and everyone tries to
grab a hand hold as General Moon's body and the three Korean Generals are sucked
out of the plane. More windows start to blow out as Vlad is painfully sucked out
of one of the portholes. Jinx meanwhile manages to take control of the plane and
steadies it off at 5,000 feet, only seconds before it would have hit the ground.
With
the lower altitude and a decreased difference in pressure, the risk of being sucked
out the windows had reduced enough for Bond and Graves to be able to stand.
Graves
relishes in discharging the Icarus gauntlet's voltage into Bond. Two powerful
surges almost knock Bond out, but he manages to kick Graves in the groin and punch
him in the face, knocking him off balance.
The plane emerges from the dust
cloud of the minefield explosion, and straight into the path of the Icarus beam!
The bright light stuns Graves, and causes the plane to buck and roll in the turbulence.
Jinx
spots the reflection of Miranda Frost on one of the damaged instruments in the
cockpit, which gives her just enough time to avoid a deadly blow from a sword.
Jinx backflips off the dashboard and readies her knife.
The heat of the
Icarus beam blows out the cockpit windows, throwing Jinx and Frost into the gymnasium.
The pair furiously fight with the blades, and Frost backs Jinx against a wall
of fire, causing her uniform to set light.
The plane somehow makes it through
the Icarus beam, although the nose is stripped to almost its airframe, and horrendous
fires reap their way through the back of the plane.
One last jolt from the
gauntlet throws Bond away from Graves as he reaches for a parachute, throwing
the remaining ones out of the window as they get sucked out at 300mph.
Now
only wearing an army vest, the sword and knife battle between Jinx and Frost reaches
its climax. Frost breaks her sword against a statue of Graves, giving Jinx time
to throw her knife at her. Frost grabs the knife out of the air - only a fraction
before it would have hit her in the chest. As she looks up with a wry smile, Jinx
delivers a powerful karate kick with plunges the blade into her.
Graves
has now put on his parachute and is preparing to leave Bond to a fiery death.
Bond makes one final assault at Graves but is met with more voltage from the gauntlet.
Graves is enjoying himself before he notices Bond has pulled the ripcord on his
parachute, sucking Graves up the stairs and through the gymnasium, and out through
an open panel in the roof. Only one bolt is left holding the panel on as Bond
runs up the stairs to see Graves hanging on for his life. Bond coldly undoes the
bolt and watches Graves as he is sucked out of the roof of the plane, and dragged
across it's length before meeting a fiery death.
The destruction of the
gauntlet stops the deadly beam of light from Icarus as Bond and Jinx race to the
cargo hold to find the helicopter which will save their lives. Just as Bond runs
through the gymnasium, a voice cries out. Frost isn't dead - yet. She pleads with
Bond to explain herself, just long enough she hopes to thwart Bond's escape, but
he ignores her and makes his way to the cargo hold before fire engulfs the room.
Bond
opens the cargo bay doors and clings on to the helicopter as the watches the Ferrari
and Lambourghini plummet out of the stricken plane. The helicopter tumbles out
next, while Jinx is desperately trying to start the engines as the craft falls
like a stone.
The engines of the helicopter start just in time, and they
hover only a few feet off the ground. The two sports cars plummet into the earth
around them as Bond takes the controls and flies the helicopter out of the warzone.
Falco
and M exchange glances as he comments that Bond should return his property, Jinx,
as soon as possible. Back in London, Moneypenny welcomes Bond back into her office,
grabs him and kisses him, before Q switches off her unscheduled session in the
VR room.
Bond and Jinx land their helicopter on a beach where they spot
a bamboo shack. The diamonds lay scattered across the floor as the Jinx begs James
that the world can go without them for a few days, and she kisses him passionately.
