Activision confirms it is pulling focus from licenced videogames

Gaming - 20-02-13
The videogame publisher with the hugely successful Call Of Duty franchise in their back pocket has confirmed to Kotaku that along with some job losses, there will be less of a focus on the licenced games.

Activision slipped the news out on the same day Sony announced the specifications for the new PlayStation 4 console.

Among the licenses they hold is of course the 007 franchise, Transformers, Spider-Man and The Walking Dead.

The statement read:

"Like any successful business, Activision Publishing consistently works to align its costs with its revenuesthis is an ongoing process. In 2013, we expect to release fewer games based on license properties and as a result are realigning our structure to better reflect the market opportunities and our slate. Approximately, 30 full-time employees have been impacted globally, which represents approximately one half of one percent of Activision Blizzard's employee population. We are offering those employees who are impacted outplacement counseling services."

The majority of job cuts reportedly came from areas that have usually been responsible for overseeing the licenced games.

Whilst a revocation of the James Bond videogame licence has long been suspected, it never been confirmed by Activision.

Thanks to Josh for the alert.
