50 Years of Ian Fleming's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on Radio 4 tomorrow

Media Alert - 19-10-14
Programme: 50 Years of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Channel: BBC Radio 4 (UK)
Date: Monday 20th October 2014
Time: 16:00 - 16:30

This is certainly a celebration of the car, the film and the Ian Fleming book. But its not a typical vacuous documentary with famous people and the odd clip. This is much more interesting because there is such a lot to say whether youre a Chitty fan or all you remember is the theme song.

Brian Sibley takes in the origins of the car including its name and the sort-of flying cars it was based on; as well as how Fleming came to write the story, the fact that there are parallels with his life and with his Bond books, and how Roald Dahl altered the plot for the screen. This is not only a celebration but also a re-examination and a reappraisal.

About This Programme
Writer Brian Sibley celebrates the 50th anniversary of the publication of Ian Fleming's novel, which later became a well-known British musical. Speaking with the film score's composer Richard Sherman, as well as Fleming's nieces, Lucy Fleming and Kate Grimond, and bibliographer Jon Gilbert, the presenter discovers how the 007 writer's only children's book came to be published.
