Eric Bana rumours continue to rumble despite official denials

Casino Royale - 02-08-04
The recent rumorus that "announced" Eric Bana as the new James Bond, are not new at all, or accurate.

The Australian actor's name was first rumoured during the Pierce Brosnan "axed" saga earlier in the year.

Back in May, MI6 confirmed that there was nothing to the rumours after talking to Bana's publicist who said he had "never been appproached for the role".

A few days later, Bana himself cleared up the stories: "Someone told me that yesterday," he laughs. "That's not something I've ever really contemplated -- no, I wouldn't be a Bond, no."

Despite these denials, the media frenzy surrounding Bana as James Bond #6 continues. The fire was re-stoked by AICN, when staff writer Moriarty claimed Bana was as good as signed.

At least one newspaper bothers to check a story out these days, as The Mercury (Australia) took the time to call Staci Wolfe (Bana's publicist) today and received the reply that he has "not even been approached for the role".

Wolfe said the speculation started while Bana was on the promotional tour for Troy.

Thanks to `Ken` for the alert.
