'GoldenEye 007' beats 'Call of Duty' in UK games chart, 'Blood Stone' sinks

Gaming - 15-11-10
The new 're-imagined' version of "GoldenEye 007" for the Nintendo Wii has beaten the latest "Call of Duty" title on the same platform, surprising many critics and industry-watchers alike.

"GoldenEye" on the Wii held on to its #4 ranking after its first full week on sale, pipping "Call of Duty: Black Ops" at #5 - which was just released. The result is likely due to two factors: "GoldenEye" had a full week on sale whereas "Call of Duty" was released on Tuesday, and fans of the shooter genre who own more than one console likely picked up the latter for Xbox 360 or PS3. "GoldenEye 007" is only available for the Wii.

Due to strong sales elsewhere, "GoldenEye 007" slipped from #13 to #20 on the all platform UK chart, and "Blood Stone" dropped out of the top 20, from #18 to #22.

"Blood Stone" managed to hold on to its #8 slot on the PS3 chart, but slumped from #10 to #17 on the Xbox 360 mostly due to the wave of new Kinect titles.

"Blood Stone" is now the worst charting James Bond game (UK, all platforms) since records began 10 years ago. Even "From Russia With Love", which was critically panned, managed #16 in its second week on release.

Neither the Nintendo DS versions of GoldenEye or Blood Stone registered in the handheld's Top 40 sales this week, indicating the titles are dead on arrival despite good reviews from the gaming press. Lack of publicity may be to blame for poor awareness of the DS titles.
