Last month, in the absence of any real James Bond news, a tidbit about EON Productions purchasing a vintage helicopter from a museum in Germany went viral. The museum insisted that the Huey was to be used in the next James Bond film.
MI6 can confirm that the Bell UH-1D chopper was purchased for a to-be-announced historical war drama that EON Productions is co-producing, and not Bond 25. Shooting on the non-Bond production is scheduled to start later in 2017.
It certainly clears up questions about why a Bond production would need such a specific model that dates back to 1959.
Series regulars Neal Purvis and Robert Wade have just been hired to pen the Bond 25 screenplay. With no script finalized and MGM lacking a distribution partner, it is looking increasingly likely any Bond 25 filming won't start until 2018 with a release not until sometime in 2019.
