We all know what James Bond drinks, but what does he eat? How do you make quiche des cabinet? What type of soup was Detective Aubergine enjoying before his untimely demise? What do villains like to splash onto their oysters? When does James Bond eat tofu? The answers to these questions and more can be found in 'Double-O Dining', a book of Bond-inspired recipes that takes readers on a culinary journey through Ian Fleming’s novels and the Bond film series.
Readers of the Bond books will already be familiar with the literary James Bond’s extreme fondness for scrambled eggs, but his diet is much more varied than that. Not only is Bond willing to trying exotic dishes, but his food choices anticipate modern food trends and household dishes. Curry, spaghetti Bolognese, avocados – Bond was a food pioneer. We do not see Bond eating very much in the films, but look closely and you will see food in abundance, and it is not just caviar: fruit bowls in hotel rooms, giant lobsters on villains’ dining tables, plates of chicken, flaming kebabs – the food is there and occasionally even integral to the plot.
