Sony reportedly offering $150m for Daniel Craig to return

04-Sep-2016 • No Time To Die

According to the latest rumour mill buzz, Sony is offering Daniel Craig an astonishing $150m to film two more James Bond films.

Radar Online are reporting today that the studio is offering the record sum to secure two more lucrative box-office outings. Why is this coming from Sony? Because according to the same report, the studio "should be announcing any day that [it] is re-upping the distribution rights for the Bond series, meaning billions of dollars in revenue."

Sony's deal with MGM to co-finance and distribute the Bond films started with 'Casino Royale' and, after an extension, expired with 'SPECTRE.'

"The studio is desperate to secure the actor’s services while they phase in a younger long-term successor,” a source told Radar.

"[Craig] has played a genius hand. Everyone knows how much executives adore him, and the idea of losing him at such a crucial time in the franchise isn’t an option as far as all the studio honchos are concerned. Daniel’s the key for a seamless, safe transition as far as Sony and Bond bosses are concerned, and they’re prepared to pay a king’s ransom to make it happen.”

Back in May, it was reported that MGM offered Craig almost $100m for two films, which he is alleged to have turned down.

During the release of 'SPECTRE' last year, MI6 Confidential magazine interviewed Daniel Craig and asked what might draw him back to doing another film, as so much of the character has been explored now, and has he come to the end of an arc? "I don't know. Not because I'm being 'I don't want to do it' but I just cannot make a decision about it," Craig explained. "The last thing I want to do [right now] is go into a room with a bunch of people and start talking about what we are going to do in the next movie. I don't have the energy."

"But I thought that after 'Skyfall', quite frankly. We really thought after 'Skyfall', after the success of it, 'What do we do now?' But we did it. You just kind of got on with it. That was the challenge, and so I suppose if we did do another one... I'd like to give it enough breathing space, you give everyone enough rest, everybody a bit of time to rethink."
