With the game about to be revealed at E3, MI6 previews some of the features in the forthcoming adventure "From Russia With Love" by EA Games...

11th May 2005

There have been screenshots... There have been video clips... But the first hands on preview of the new game is likely to come at the E3 Expo in Los Angeles later this month.

Rather than showing a CGI video "artists impression" of what the game will be like, which is what EA displayed for "Everything or Nothing" at the 2003 show, expect to see actual in-game action at the trade fair between May 18th to May 20th.

Voice Talent
As MI6 revealed in the April report, EA are recasting some of the classic characters from the film. The first of those is Miss Moneypenny, who will now be voiced by actress Karly Rothenberg, rather than Lois Maxwell. Rothenberg, who is originally from Denver, Colorado (USA) will also voice the Russian character of Rosa Klebb, replacing Lotte Lenya.

The only other cast member so far confirmed for the project is of course Sir Sean Connery, who will be officially lending his voice and likeness to the part of James Bond - 43 years since he first played in 007 in 1962's "Dr. No". Last month, rumours claimed that despite both actors having passed away, both Robert Shaw and Desmond Llewelyn would have their likeness featured in the game, as Red Grant and Q respectively.

Rewards
For the first time in a James Bond videogame, you will be able to customise the look of 007 - and his equipment.

The scoring system in "From Russia With Love" will affect the gameplay as the more points you score, the more items you can purchase or unlock.

Past games have allowed players to unlock concept art, stills, videos and trading card style rewards, but "From Russia With Love" will go one step further with costumes and weapons and gadget upgrades.

The look of 007 will be under your control - if you earn the extra wardrobe items. Points can be turned into different costumes for Bond and can be activated from an inventory during the game. Need to sneak up on some goons or infiltrate an enemy base without being detected? Just slip into a stealth suit for some additional creep-em-up abilities. Do not expect the ridiculous invisible tuxedo from "Everything or Nothing" though, all of the wardrobe items will be a mix of 1960s kitsch and real world based spy gear.

Weapons and gadgets will also benefit form the players inventory. Players will be able to invest in upgrades on their favourite weapons and gadgets, earning additional modes, and capacity. Traditionalists may prefer to perfect the trusty Walther PPK, others may decide to upgrade their rocket launch to fire heat seeking missiles. The choices will be there for players to tailor their arsenal - as well as their suits - to their brand of Bond gameplay.

Release Dates
As MI6 exclusively revealed last month, "From Russia With Love" was being scheduled for release on October 10th 2005 by EA Australia. This date was later backed up by the press release from Prima that the official Strategy Guide for the game was scheduled for release a day later on October 11th 2005. Since then though, EA Australia have knocked the game back to November 22nd 2005 - a more traditional release date for a James Bond adventure. Developers EA Redwood have yet to officially confirm any date for the title, just stating "Fall 2005" as the release window.

Development of "From Russia With Love" will take place at EA Redwood studios (USA) and will ship in October/November 2005 on Microsoft Xbox, Sony PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube.

Stay tuned to MI6 for the latest unrivalled coverage of "From Russia With Love" (VG) starring Sean Connery as James Bond 007.
